Rising mortgage costs had made large geared portfolios harder to sustain, with PIPA research finding investors were exiting mainly in Victoria and Queensland and could ultimately strip upwards of 200,000 homes out of the rental pool. Commentators including Peter Koulizos and AMP’s Shane Oliver outlined lower cost routes into property, among them superannuation and self managed funds, joint purchases with family, regional buying and listed property trusts.
