Victoria’s expanded vacant residential land tax, COVID debt levy and short stay charge were expected to accelerate an investor retreat, with Melbourne dropping from second favourite capital among landlords to eighth in PIPA’s annual survey. A quarter of Melbourne investors had sold a rental in the past year, and 38 per cent nationally signalled they might sell within 12 months.
