The rise of ‘rentvesting’ among modern investors

Hotspotting founder Terry Ryder examined rentvesting, where buyers rent where they want to live and purchase in cheaper markets, arguing affordability pressures had made it a mainstream route into ownership. He cited CoreLogic figures showing combined regional values rose 54 per cent over five years against 36 per cent in the capitals. Drawbacks included capital gains tax exposure, landlord duties and the loss of first home buyer concessions.
