New analysis released by PIPA compared capital city median house prices across the seven years spanning each recession or downturn from 1973 to the global financial crisis. It found values sat higher five years after every episode, with gains reaching 100.7 per cent in Sydney by 1980 and 67.7 per cent in Melbourne by 1988. Chairman Peter Koulizos said price falls in those periods proved short lived rather than sustained.
