Last updated: 19/09/2026. This statement applies to applications and renewals lodged from the 19th of September 2026.
1. About this statement
This is the privacy collection statement given to every person who applies for PIPA membership, renews a membership, or applies for QPIA accreditation. It is displayed in the application and renewal forms before the form is submitted, and it is reproduced here so that it can be read at any time.
It is given by Property Investment Professionals of Australia Ltd (ABN 21 093 872 051), and it should be read with the PIPA privacy policy, which sets out in full how personal information is handled, stored, secured and disclosed.
2. What PIPA collects
An application or renewal collects the following.
- Identity and contact details, including any other name the applicant has been known by, and photographic identification.
- Business details, including the trading name, the entity, the ABN and ACN, the registered address, the states and territories of operation and the number of team members in the business.
- Practice details, including the services provided, professional indemnity insurance and its history, every licence and registration held, and membership of other professional bodies.
- Answers to seven disclosure questions covering disciplinary action, insolvency, banning or disqualification, civil proceedings, external dispute resolution complaints, adverse media, and any other relevant matter.
- Where QPIA accreditation is claimed, the education, assessment and continuing professional development record.
- The declarations made, the consents given or refused, the wording in force at the time, and the date, time and address the form was lodged from.
Some of this information is information that people would regard as private. It is collected because it is necessary to assess the application, it is collected with consent, and it is held under the access restrictions described in the privacy policy.
3. Why PIPA collects it
- To assess the application for membership or accreditation.
- To maintain the membership register and the accreditation register.
- To administer membership, accreditation and continuing professional development.
- To publish the Find a QPIA Adviser directory, where the member holds current QPIA accreditation and that consent is given.
- To confirm that a member continues to meet the requirements of membership.
- To investigate a complaint.
- To meet PIPA own legal and regulatory obligations.
If this information is not provided, PIPA cannot assess the application.
4. Verification, and who PIPA may deal with
To verify what is stated in the form, PIPA may make enquiries of, and disclose the relevant parts of the form to:
- state and territory licensing and registration authorities, and professional and regulatory bodies;
- the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and other regulators, including their public registers of banned and disqualified persons;
- the Australian Business Register and other public registers;
- the Australian Financial Security Authority, for insolvency and bankruptcy records;
- a credit reporting body, for a credit report relating to the applicant or to a business they control;
- publicly available media and court records, being an adverse media search;
- external dispute resolution schemes, ombudsman services and consumer bodies;
- the insurers, brokers, education providers and referees named in the form; and
- payment processors, to confirm transaction status.
These enquiries are made only in connection with the assessment of an application, the maintenance of membership or accreditation, or the investigation of a complaint. They are not used for marketing, and the results are not disclosed to any other member.
Where information obtained from a third party is relied on to refuse, suspend or cancel a membership or accreditation, PIPA will tell the person what was relied on and give them a reasonable opportunity to respond, unless prevented from doing so by law.
5. The four consents
The form records four consents separately, so the record shows precisely what was agreed. The first two are required, because the application cannot be assessed without them. The last two are optional, may be refused without affecting the application, and may be withdrawn at any time.
5.1 Collection and use, required
Consent to PIPA collecting, holding, using and disclosing the information and documents in the form for the purposes described in this statement and in the privacy policy.
5.2 Verification, required
Consent to PIPA verifying what has been stated, including by searching public registers, by making the enquiries described at section 4, and by obtaining a report from a credit reporting body and an adverse media search.
5.3 Find a QPIA Adviser directory, optional
Consent to the member name, business name, accreditation, states and territories of operation and business contact details being published in the Find a QPIA Adviser directory. This applies only to members who hold current QPIA accreditation. PIPA does not publish a directory of members. Membership itself is published only as a verification result at www.pipa.asn.au/verify/, which confirms whether a person holds current PIPA membership.
5.4 News and events, optional
Consent to receiving PIPA news, event invitations and other marketing communications by email. Every such email carries an unsubscribe link.
Neither optional consent is pre-selected, and a box left unticked is recorded as a refusal rather than as an unanswered question.
6. Service providers, including overseas
PIPA uses service providers, including providers located overseas, to operate its website, membership system, learning system and email. These are set out in the privacy policy, which also states how personal information is stored and secured and how long it is kept.
7. The record given to the applicant
On lodgement, PIPA produces a declaration record in PDF form and sends it to the applicant. It sets out every question asked, the answer given, this statement in the wording displayed, each consent and whether it was given or refused, and each declaration in the wording accepted. A copy is held against the member record and is available from MY PIPA.
8. Access, correction and complaints
A member or applicant may ask for access to the personal information PIPA holds about them, or ask for it to be corrected, and may make a privacy complaint. How to do each of those, and the time in which PIPA will respond, is set out in the PIPA privacy policy.
