Lending restrictions have led to rental undersupply: PIPA

Lending restrictions imposed in 2017 had left several capitals with vacancy rates below 1 per cent, according to PIPA, which cited SQM Research showing Perth fall from 5 per cent to 0.9 per cent and Brisbane from 3.5 per cent to 1.5 per cent over four years. Chairman Peter Koulizos urged policymakers against further intervention, while APRA deputy chair John Lonsdale said higher-risk lending had not returned in aggregate.
