Renters responded angrily after landlords described losing control of their properties and selling up, following survey findings that taxes, tenancy law changes and interest rates were driving investors out. PIPA’s Nicola McDougall said many owners were selling entire portfolios, while tenant advocates argued property investment carried risk that should not be passed to renters. A Senate committee had recently urged stronger renter protections.
