Investors not to blame for rental affordability woes: PIPA

PIPA said the rental affordability squeeze would worsen without intervention, attributing it to a shortage of rental homes rather than to investors. Chairman Peter Koulizos said lending restrictions introduced in 2017 had kept investors out of the market, with SQM Research showing the national vacancy rate down to 1.7 per cent and weekly house rents up by almost 24 per cent since December 2016.
