MCG Quantity Surveyors managing director Mike Mortlock proposed five measures to lift rental supply, including easing lending rules on investors, construction grants, stronger depreciation deductions, unwinding tenancy law changes and encouraging regional and city-fringe settlement. He said private investors supplied about 84 per cent of rental housing yet were largely absent from policy discussions. PIPA research showed most properties sold by investors had been bought by owner-occupiers.
