Research by academic Peter Koulizos for PIPA and PICA found national rents rose 11 per cent in the decade to June 2022 while inflation rose 25.6 per cent, with Hobart the only capital where rents kept pace. The organisations said investors had absorbed rising costs, tenancy reforms and lending restrictions over the same period. They warned that continued anti-investor measures would deepen the rental shortage as more owners sold up.
