Home sales rise but experts fear Victoria’s landlord exodus will be a blow for state budget: Real Estate Institute of Victoria

Victorian industry figures warned the state’s May budget faced weaker stamp duty and land tax receipts as landlords continued to sell. REIV data showed sales rose by about 10,000 over the year while Melbourne’s median house price slipped 2 per cent to $911,000, with rental supply down more than 24,700 homes in the year to September. PIPA board member Cate Bakos said the tax system needed rethinking rather than leaning on investors.
