Australian Bureau of Statistics figures covering March 2002 to December 2022 showed the smaller capitals delivered the strongest median house price growth, led by Hobart at 5.9 times, ahead of Adelaide, Canberra and Brisbane. Sydney and Melbourne more than tripled but trailed most other cities. PIPA’s Peter Koulizos said the results demonstrated that smaller markets could suit long-term investors despite periodic falls and flat stretches.
