Canberra recorded the strongest annual price growth of any state or territory capital in the year to the September quarter, up 10.6 per cent, according to Real Estate Institute of Australia figures. Averaged across the capitals, the median house price rose 3.6 per cent to $773,760, with Melbourne the only city to fall over the quarter. PIPA research showed capital city medians had risen markedly five years after each recent downturn.
