Propell Property’s Michael Pell and PIPA chair Nicola McDougall listed the errors that most often undid first-time investors, including buying emotionally, confining the search to familiar suburbs or chasing unfamiliar trending markets, and selecting a property that suited the owner rather than local tenants. Both stressed arranging finance approval first and holding a cash reserve for urgent repairs. The advice followed a 29.5 per cent annual lift in investor lending.
