A perfect storm: Australia’s rental crisis – part three

Part three of a series on the rental shortage examined two proposed remedies, lowering APRA’s three percentage point serviceability buffer and declining tenant offers above the advertised rent. Industry figures argued the buffer was locking investors out of finance much as lending caps had from 2017. A property manager said accepting higher offers inflated market prices and amounted to indirect discrimination against lower income applicants.
