Suburbs set to lose most from negative gearing change

PropTrack analysis of Sydney rentals listed since 2019 found more than 90 per cent of recent investor buyers were negatively geared across most of the city, with average interest losses reaching about $88,000 a year in East Lindfield. Claims had grown sharply as rate rises outpaced rent increases. Advisers cautioned against buying property chiefly for the deduction, arguing long-term capital growth should drive the decision.
