Monthly rise in dwelling approvals below national housing target

Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showed 14,175 dwellings were approved in May 2024, a rise of 5.5 per cent in seasonally adjusted terms but still well below the same month a year earlier. Economists said approvals running at about 161,000 a year fell far short of the 240,000 a year required under the National Housing Accord goal of 1.2 million new homes in five years.
