Australia’s property market has seen a huge drop in investor activity

PIPA’s October national market update reported that new investor loan commitments had fallen more than 27 per cent since the Reserve Bank began lifting rates in May 2022, while owner occupier commitments rose 2.5 per cent. Chair Nicola McDougall said reduced buying alongside heavy selling would keep vacancy rates at record lows and push rents higher. Contributors also noted resilience in the Melbourne and Brisbane markets.
